Pictures of our sun

It is very dangerous to look at the Sun with binoculars or a telescope. It can blind you.

With special filters pictures like these can be taken...carefully.

Solar imaging with my Dwarf II scope in the back garden gave these (best of) images.

The main thing to see are patterns of  black areas which are Sun spots.

Also you may see some "freckles" which are white in colour. They are called "faculae", while sun spots appear dark they are cooler at around 3,500 degrees and the White spots (faculae) are hotter around 5,700 degrees.

Both types of sun spots are caused by chaotic magnetic fields inside the Sun.
